The Perfect Venue

Aimee and Richard fell in love with Bassmead Manor Barns the moment they saw it. ‘It was everything we were looking for’ says Aimee. ‘The most important thing was to have a special room for our civil ceremony and, when we saw the Rickety Barn, it took our breath away.’

Purple wedding decorations look incredible at this natural wedding venue in Cambridgeshire.

Planning a small, intimate wedding, the happy couple loved the privacy of the venue and the fact that they could make their day really personal. ‘Everyone was so lovely and made us feel like nothing was too much trouble’ smiles Aimee. ‘Richard was even able to drive his truck to the wedding and have photos with it!’

Theme of the Day

A natural, rustic look was the order of the day, with hints of Aimee’s favourite colour, ‘Cadbury’ purple and a touch of silver for sparkle. Using their creative skills, Aimee and Richard made a lot of the decorations themselves. Different sized vintage jars and jam jars tied with purple ribbon sat on the ceremony table, with two bay trees alongside.

Floral decorations and pops of colour really bring this Cambridgeshire wedding venue to life.

The vintage jars continued around the venue, filled with white gypsophila and purple freesias.

All About the Dress

Aimee wore ‘Peachy’ by Olivia Grace featuring a lace bodice with stunning open back. ‘It was my dream dress!’ she smiles. ‘I normally wear quite plain clothes so I wanted to go for the wow factor. This had everything I wanted – as soon as I put it on, I just knew it was the one.’ The beautiful bride accessorised with silver diamante shoes, a beautiful head piece (a gift from her sister) and Pandora jewellery, chosen by her son Reece and a gift from Richard.

As for the Groom…

The stylish groom wore a grey morning suit with purple waistcoat. Accessories included personalised cufflinks featuring their initials and the wedding date and a watch, given to Richard on the morning of the wedding by his son Jack. The ushers wore similar outfits but with silver waistcoats as a point of difference.

Pretty Bridesmaids

Of Aimee’s four bridesmaids, three wore purple dresses in identical styles. As the maid of honour, Aimee’s sister Helen wore the same beautiful gown in silver. Each chose their own hair bands, pins or slides to suit their hair style and all wore elegant necklaces featuring amethysts made by bridesmaid, Amy.

Beautiful Blooms

Continuing the purple theme, Aimee carried a bouquet of lilac roses, blue scabious and lilac veronica. The maid of honour carried a smaller posy with the same flowers, while the other bridesmaids held posies of purple freesia and gypsophila. All were tied with hessian to complement the natural, vintage style.

The Wedding Breakfast

Guests were treated to the finest wedding food, and dined on delicious warming tomato soup to start, followed by roast beef with Yorkshire puddings and sticky toffee pudding with caramel sauce. ‘We chose the menu as it’s our favourite comfort food’ explains Aimee ‘and roast dinner was the first thing Richard cooked for me!’ Galloping Gourmet pulled out all the stops to ensure that the wedding breakfast went down a storm!

Let Them Eat Cake!

A three-tier cake was decorated with rugby goals, a pitch and the bride and groom (with Richard in his rugby kit, of course!). As well as looking great, it tasted delicious with a chocolate fudge bottom tier, lemon sponge in the middle and white chocolate and raspberry for the top tier.
