Colourful Elegant Wedding at Bassmead Manor Barns

Following a romantic New York proposal, Carly and Stuart were looking for a venue that was equally magical. Their May wedding was simply dreamy.

The Perfect Venue

When Carly and Stuart first visited Bassmead Manor Barns, the venue was undergoing complete renovation.

“Even though it was half-finished, we knew immediately that it would be the perfect venue for us,” says Carly. “We fell in love with the atmosphere, the attention to detail, the décor, the food, the staff… everything! We were so excited to find such a special place so close to home.”

Theme of the Day

The vibrant colours of raspberry and lime were chosen for this special day and carried through all the elements from the outfits to the flowers and the cake. Décor details included quotes on glass frames, candles and a beautiful card box. These personalised items really gave the day a sentimental edge. Carly even created vodka infusions in the colour theme flavours and made fridge magnet favours with photographs of each guest!

All About the Dress

Having tried on numerous dresses and with a growing list of favourites, Carly finally found ‘the one’.

To complete the look, Carly wore simple drop earrings from Links of London and a Swarovski bracelet – both gifts from her parents. A borrowed garter, charm bracelet and cathedral length veil were the finishing touches.

“When I put the dress on, it just felt right,” she explains. “It flattered me and I felt it would also suit the venue and the style of the wedding. I kept swishing and swooping around and realised I had found the gown!”

As for the Groom and the Bridesmaids…

Stuart and his ushers wore soft tweed style suits from Jack Bunneys in Barking.

“We had planned charcoal grey suits but this suit had such an edge,” Carly explains. “We then found the perfect colour fabric to bring in our raspberry accents, from which Stuart had a waistcoat made… and they even made a tie and pocket square for our four-year old page boy!”

Beautiful Blooms

Continuing the striking colour scheme, flowers were chosen in shades of ivory, lime and raspberry. Bouquets were large, bold statement blooms with an emphasis on the colour and buttonholes were single large peonies with an accent of lime amaryllis.

“Our florist did a fantastic job of turning my vision in to a reality,” says Carly. “The table centres were just what we were after – a reflection of our bouquets in tall martini glass vases lined with cut fresh limes.”

The Wedding Breakfast

Following their church ceremony, the drinks reception was served in the contemporary Moat Barn, with guests enjoying limoncello spritz, kir royales and cosmo-nots alongside a delicious selection of canapés.

When it came to dining, the expert on-site catering team, served a pork salad was served to start with beef and dauphinoise potatoes as a main choice. To finish… a trio of desserts included scones with strawberries, Eton mess with raspberries and a lime tart. Guests were entertained throughout with chilled acoustic sounds for the drinks reception and chilled jazz on saxophone and piano during the wedding breakfast.

“When it came to the menu, we can’t praise the chefs highly enough,” smiles Carly. “We needed to cater for various dietary requirements and they trialled different versions of the desserts to get everything absolutely right.”

Let Them Eat Cake!

The elegant cake was plain ivory with an ombre, ruffled top tier in raspberry and a contrasting single open ivory peony on the top with scattered lime flowers.

Evening Celebrations

The happy couple chose a band to entertain their guests… and entertain they certainly did! Carly and Stuart danced their first dance to ‘All of Me’ by John Legend.

“Ashmore Acoustics certainly did us proud,” says Carly. “The first dance song and their entire set list surpassed what we had imagined.”

If We Could Do It All Again…

“We would celebrate over a weekend. One day just wasn’t long enough!”
