Autumn Wedding Ideas for a Country Wedding Venue

As popular as summer weddings are, an autumn wedding can be just as beautiful. With the golden leaves falling from the trees, delicious comfort food and gorgeous colours on trend, autumn is the perfect season. Getting married at a country wedding venue will add to the stunning backdrop and make for some gorgeous photographs. Here is Bassmead Manor Barns’ autumn wedding ideas for a country wedding venue.

Wedding Favours

Get creative with seasonal wedding favours. Some autumnal ideas include bonfire toffee lollipops and toffee apples. You could also consider mini jars of homemade chutneys, jams and marmalades. Or why not give guests seed packets and add a romantic message such as ‘spread the love’.

Seating

If you’re getting married at a country wedding venue, you may want to incorporate a rustic theme. For seating at your wedding, you could opt for wooden crates with some soft cushions on top, or why not use bales of hay with cosy blankets?

Dress

Prepare for the changing seasons by opting for a long sleeved wedding dress. A light chiffon material will keep you warm if it is cooler, but if the summer sun lasts a little longer, it won’t be too clingy.

Depending on your colour scheme, you may want to steer away from a traditional white dress. Shades of champagne or blush pink are a subtle change if you’re not looking for anything too contemporary.

Food & Drink

With autumn comes delicious, satisfying comfort food. For your wedding menu, consider warm, hearty soups, pies and lamb or pork for mains. Vegetarian options could include pumpkin ravioli, mushroom risotto or a seasonal vegetable tart. For dessert, you could have a selection of desserts such as apple pie, pumpkin cheesecake and blackberry and pear crumble. Bassmead Manor Barns has on-site luxury wedding caterers to guide you through the options available.

For drinks with an autumnal feel, think spiced apple, caramel and berry flavours. You could choose to serve guests with seasonal cocktails, mocktails or offer both for guests to decide.

Colour Scheme

For a colour scheme to match the season, think about rich plum, copper or rust red. If you’re looking for something a little subtler, rose gold, soft peach and dove grey look beautiful with bright seasonal bouquets. Your colour scheme can start with the bridesmaid dresses and run throughout.

Bright, bold bouquets which include plum, orange or red make a statement. Choose shades which match your colour scheme or opt for vibrant to contrast a softer colour palette.

Cake

You could choose spiced fruit or chocolate for your cake centrepiece. Decorate with seasonal squash, berries, flowers or pine cones for a rustic, autumn look.

Decorations & Guestbook

The possibilities for autumn décor are endless. You could have a harvest festival display with different squash and pumpkins. Conkers, pine cones and all things rustic fit in perfectly. Provide guests with coloured confetti to match your bridal bouquet.

With dark nights approaching, there is plenty of opportunity to add pretty fairy lights, lanterns and candles to your wedding. Make sure that the path to your reception venue is well lit.

For a twist on the traditional guestbook, allow guests to write their well wishes on notes in the shape of golden leaves. Alternatively, create a tree with Post-it notes as leaves.

Photographs

Getting married at a country wedding venue provides a stunning backdrop for the all-important wedding photographs. Bassmead Manor Barns’ outdoor space and driveway are lined with trees which turn red, yellow and golden brown in autumn. The footbridge over the moat is also a pretty spot for photographs.
